Mobile surge fueled by messaging, social apps

January 14, 2014

Mobile has boomed the past several years. A Flurry Analytics report says that overall app use for 2013 grew by 115 percent over the year before.

Smartphone games get a lot of attention, but the 66 percent growth rate for game apps in 2013 was outpaced by several other categories. Lifestyle and shopping apps grew by 77 percent. Music, media and entertainment apps usage grew 78 percent.

Mobile use isn’t all about play. Use for apps in the utility and productivity category increased an impressive 149 percent as we figure out how to further take advantage of mobile platforms.

Perhaps not too surprisingly, the leader in usage was in messaging and social media apps with a whopping 203 percent growth.
