Morning crashes on wet highways slow traffic

From staff reportsJanuary 14, 2014

— Several accidents on area highways slowed traffic Tuesday morning, but no serious injuries were reported.

Raleigh police were called to a series of accidents that happened about 7:45 a.m. on U.S. 1 near the interchange with Interstate 40 near the Cary town line.

In Durham, the state Department of Transportation reported three of six lanes of westbound I-40 were closed near Interstate 540 because of a collision about 7:30 a.m.

Morning drizzle made area roads more slippery than normal, and police and state troopers were called to numerous minor crashes.
