Durham police charge man with murder, end hunt for two others

From staff reportsJanuary 14, 2014

— Police have charged a Durham man with murder and ended a manhunt related to the discovery of a dead body on Linwood Avenue on Tuesday morning.

Richard Lee Johnson, 36, is accused of killing Antonio M. Dixon, 33, of Durham, police announced late Tuesday. Police did not say what they think led to the shooting, but said the two men appeared to know one another and that the killing “did not appear to be random.”

Police had searched for two other men spotted fleeing from the area, but further investigation indicated those men weren’t involved in the crime, according to the department.

The suspected killing happened shortly before 10 a.m. in the 600 block on Linwood, a block east of Fayetteville Street south of the Durham Freeway.
