Blu Seafood chef to open gluten-free restaurant in Durham

Tim Lyons, owner/chef of Blu Seafood & Bar, has announced plans to open Primal Food & Spirits, which he’s describing as the Triangle’s first gluten-free restaurant, in Southpoint Crossing Shopping Center.

Inspired by a “primal” eating lifestyle, the restaurant will feature wood-fired local meats and seasonal side dishes. The full bar’s craft cocktail menu will also showcase local ingredients.

Lyons is quick to point out that the menu’s appeal is not limited to people with Celiac’s disease or wheat allergies, noting that “people are more conscious about what they eat, and a local farm-to-fork restaurant will appeal to everyone, regardless if gluten-free is important to them or not.”

Slated to open this summer, Primal Food & Spirits (202-107 West N.C. Hwy. 54, Durham. ) will offer seating for over 100 and a room for private functions. The restaurant will initially serve dinner Monday-Saturday, with plans to add lunch and Saturday brunch service soon afterward. Follow their progress at twitter.com/primaldurham.
