Oregon Inlet

Puppy drum between 20-27 inches have been caught despite poor weather conditions. Contact: Oregon Inlet Fishing Center 252-441-6301,

Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

Only trout have been caught within the past week, mostly in the creeks and a few in the surf. Contact: EJW Outdoors 252-247-4725; Portside Marina 252-726-7678;

Topsail Island

A few speckled trout and puppy drum reports have been made, but no boats have gone offshore. Contact: East Coast Discount Tackle 910-328-1887,

Wilmington/ Wrightsville Beach

Some smaller trout have been caught in the creeks and waterway, but king mackarel can be reeled in at 40 miles offshore. Contact: Tex’s Tackle 910-791-1763,

Southport/Sunset Beach

Some black drum and whiting have been caught, in addition to reports of puppy drum and trout. Contact: Dutchman Creek Bait & Tackle 910-457-1221;; or


Falls Lake

The crappie have settled near the bottom, biting on minnows at about 15-18 foot depths. The largemouth bass fishing is slow, but some can be caught on jigs, spoons and blade bait on the shoreline. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 253.92, full pool 264.8. Contact: Outhouse Tackle 919-217-0085;
