NCCU's Wilkins named to the Fabulous 50 team

— N.C. Central sophomore Adrian Wilkins was named to the College Sporting News 2013 Fabulous 50 FCS All-America Team as a kickoff returner.

Wilkins was the only Football Championship Subdivision player with five special teams touchdowns. He scored on three kickoff returns (100, 96, 91 yards) and two punt returns (89, 73 yards). He topped the MEAC in punt returns (13.4 yards per return) and ranked second in kickoff returns (30.3 yards per return).

Women’s basketball

Wake Forest: Senior Chelsea Douglas is one of 29 players on the 2014 Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List released Wednesday by The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The award recognizes the top point guard in women’s Division I basketball.

Douglas is third in the ACC in scoring at 18.6 points per game and is second in three-pointers made with 52. She has 35 assists and is shooting over 38 percent from beyond the three-point arc.

Duke: Redshirt freshman Katie Heckman has ended her basketball career and accepted a medical hardship after a torn ACL and two ensuing arthroscopic knee surgeries.


N.C. State: Sophomore Brittni Watkins was named East Atlantic Gymnastics League Gymnast of the Week.

Watkins captured the all-around title with a score of 39.325 against UNC in her first meet competing as an all-arounder.
