Fire at Raleigh duplex displaces three people early Monday

— A small but smoky fire drove three residents from a duplex home at 801 Atwater St. early Monday, firefighters said.

Firefighters said they found a “moderate” smoke condition at the back of the building after being dispatched at 4:18 a.m.

They declared the fire under control 12 minutes later, according to a fire department report.

Fire investigators said the cause was accidental.

Both apartments were listed as uninhabitable, though 10 percent of the overall structure was damaged.
