Financial services firm to open facility in Edenton; create 32 jobs

A financial services company that specializes in the needs of health care providers plans to open an office in Chowan County and create 32 jobs over the next three years.

Gov. Pat McCrory’s office announced Tuesday that Standard Medical Acceptance Corp. plans invest more than $552,000 in the facility in Edenton, about 150 miles east of Raleigh.

SMA is eligible to receive a $156,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund. The grant requires a local match, and the company must meet investment and job-creation milestones.

The average annual wage for the new jobs is expected to be $63,906, plus benefits. That’s more than double the Chowan County average of $31,646.

New York-based SMA offers a platform for helping health care providers with funding problems. The company will locate its new operations center in Edenton, and will also relocate SMA’s main data processing facilities to North Carolina.
