Wake County school board buys land for new elementary school

The Wake County school board voted Tuesday to buy land for a new elementary school near eastern Wake County.

The board agreed to pay $720,000 for 24 acres near Tarheel Club and Milburnie roads, located west of the 540 Outer Loop between Raleigh and Knightdale. The E-36 school is scheduled to open in 2016.

The property includes a portion of the parcel having a Wake County real estate pin number of 1745029854.

Also on Tuesday, the school board voted to request $700,000 for initial design of the school.

Both the design money and the purchase of the land are subject to the approval of the Wake County Board of Commissioners. Earlier this month, the commissioners turned down the school system’s request for $3 million to start designs on four schools.

Both boards plan to have a joint meeting in February to discuss school design and other construction issues.
