Connor Atkeson: Third party should do testing

January 24, 2014

Regarding the Jan. 23 news article “UNC chief Folt calls for civility in debate”: The solution to the debate about reading levels and valid testing appears rather simple to me. Instead of trying to shoot the messenger, UNC-CH might consider having one of the companies that administers tests such as the SAT conduct the necessary tests.

If the athletes prove able to read at the proper level, well and good. If not, then take the necessary steps to correct the problem. Meanwhile, the university is stonewalling a question to which most people believe they know the answer: Athletes get a pass.
