Sisters Heidi Segars and Keira Segars of Raleigh both were awarded blue ribbons for their crafts at the N.C. State Fair last fall.
Keira, 6, won first place for a string art project and first place and best in show for a beaded, braided necklace in the kumihimo style.
Heidi, 8, won first place for a knitted hat and first place, best in show and Embroiderers Guild of America ribbons for a chicken scratch bookmark. She also won an honorable mention for an essay she wrote about what job she would like to have if she worked at the fair. (One-woman band was her answer.)
