Before they were stars: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Posted by David Menconi on January 27, 2014

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis cleaned up at the Grammy Awards Sunday night, taking home four trophies including best new artist. They also turned in the most memorable and moving performance of the night with “Same Love” – during which 33 couples, same-sex as well as straight, got married at Los Angeles’ Staples Center. Back in 2011, before the duo had caught on at the mass-appeal level and was big enough to play big rooms like Raleigh’s PNC Arena (where they performed last November), they played Chapel Hill nightclub Local 506. Footage from Local 506 makes up the first two minutes of their tour video, which you should check out here.
