San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jordan Sims tallied 21 points, leading six players in double figures, as the Roadrunners of Texas-San Antonio captured an 89-76 win over the Rice Owls in a Conference USA clash at the Convocation Center,
Phillip Jones registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, adding four steals for the Roadrunners (7-12, 3-3 C-USA) as they snapped a three-game slide. Also posting a double-double for the group was Edrico McGregor with 13 points and 10 boards, while Devon Agusi, Hyjii Thomas and Keon Lewis all dropped in 11 points for the hosts.
The Owls (6-14, 1-6) were led by Keith Washington with 20 points off the bench in 22 minutes of action, followed by Sean Obi with 19 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out. Austin Ramljak tacked on 10 points for a Rice team that has lost nine of the last 10 outings.
Both teams shot the ball well from the field in the first half, but while Rice was hitting at a 51.7 percent clip, the Roadrunners were converting 60.0 percent of their chances, including 5-of-8 behind the 3-point line, en route to a 51-39 advantage at the break.
In the second half UTSA dipped down to just 37.0 percent from the floor, but still the team remained in front by double digits through to the end.
The Owls hurt themselves with 18 turnovers, were beaten on the glass (37-28) and outscored at the free-throw line (24-10) on the night.
