Durham man charged with fatal November shooting

January 31, 2014

— Police on Friday charged a 23-year-old man with the two shootings in West Durham late last year that killed one man and injured another.

Kenneth Tyvon Jones Jr. of Durham was arrested at 2201 Morehead Ave. by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Joint Task Force, according to Durham police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

Jones was arrested a short distance from Lyon Park where shortly after 3 p.m. on Nov. 23, police found two men wounded in the parking lot.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital. Quaysean Tymeek Malachi, 20, of High Point, was pronounced dead. The second victim was treated for injuries not considered life threatening, Michael reported.

Investigators did not disclose a motive for the shooting Friday but reported that the incident was not a random act and that Jones knew the victims, Michael reported.

Jones has been charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was being held at the Durham County jail Friday.
