DWI arrests on Super Bowl Sunday tripled Raleigh's average

— Police went looking for intoxicated drivers on Super Bowl Sunday, and they suspect they found more than a dozen.

The Raleigh Police Department, which had announced that it would be on the lookout for intoxicated drivers, made 14 driving-while-impaired arrests on Sunday. The department’s DWI squad made eight arrests, while other officers made six.

The names of those arrested weren’t immediately available.

The number of arrests was high compared with an average day. In 2013, Raleigh police made an average of five DWI arrests per day.
