Break-in led to extortion demand, Raleigh police charge

From staff reportsFebruary 4, 2014

— A 22-year-old man broke into an apartment Monday evening and threatened to kill the resident if the man did not deliver $500 in cash or that value in crack cocaine by Tuesday, according to an arrest warrant sworn out by Raleigh police.

The warrant charged Kurt Deion Frederick with extortion and first-degree burglary.

The break-in happened between 7:30 and 8 p.m. in the 3800 block of Kelford Drive, according to the warrant.

An arrest report showed that police arrested Frederick shortly afterward at 3988 Neeley St., about three blocks away.

Police thought Frederick lived at the Neeley Street address, but he told booking officers at the Wake County Detention Center that he lives at 8304 Bridgefair Court in Fuquay-Varina.

Frederick was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail for a court appearance Tuesday.
