Doughnut-eating runners fill downtown streets for Krispy Kreme Challenge

From staff reportsFebruary 8, 2014

— Thousands of runners set out from the Bell Tower on the N.C. State University campus Saturday morning for one of the Triangle’s most popular – and bizarre – fundraisers.

The runners traveled to the Krispy Kreme store on Peace Street, downed a dozen doughnuts, then ran back to the Bell Tower.

The Krispy Kreme Challenge is about 5 miles total.

The race has raised more than $750,000 for the N.C. Children’s Hospital since its inception 10 years ago.
