Fognini cruises past Mayer to win Chile Open

Vina del Mar, Chile ( - Top-seeded Fabio Fognini breezed past Leonardo Mayer to capture the Royal Guard Open title on Sunday.

The Italian made quick work of the Argentine Mayer in a 6-2, 6-4 decision on the red clay at Club Naval.

Fognini won his third career title by dispatching Mayer for the second time in as many chances. Fognini also won in straight sets when the two met in Stuttgart last year.

The Italian is now 3-3 in career finals, while Mayer was making his first career appearance in a title match.
