Coastal Federal Credit Union adds 16th branch

Coastal Federal Credit Union has opened a new branch office in front of Crabtree Valley Mall.

Coastal Federal’s 16th branch is the first new, non-replacement branch it’s opened since 2009. The credit union has opened a couple of branches in recent years — one in Durham and one in Raleigh — “but they were replacements for existing locations,” said spokesman Joe Mecca.

The new, 4,200-square-foot branch is situated along Glenwood Avenue at the Blue Ridge Road entrance to Crabtree Valley.

“Love the visibility,” said Mecca, who added that the new branch doesn’t overlap with the credit union’s other sites.

Coastal Federal doesn’t have any additional expansion plans for 2014, but it is eyeing adding other branches.

“There are other opportunities for us to grow,” Mecca said. “We’d like to be in Chapel Hill. We’d like to be in other parts of Wake County.”
