Atlantic Avenue in Raleigh closed after accident brings down power lines

From staff reportsFebruary 11, 2014

— A portion of Atlantic Avenue was closed Tuesday morning after a hit-and-run driver struck a utility pole and power lines sagged over the street, police said.

The street was blocked between Hodges Street and Whitaker Mill Road shortly after 7 a.m., and traffic was rerouted through the area.

Power crews were on the scene to repair the pole, and police were looking for the vehicle that hit the pole, police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.

No one was hurt at the crash scene. The road reopened around noon.

Drivers were asked to choose alternate routes for the morning commute.
