Jack Unruh: Make politicians stand up

February 11, 2014

Regarding the Jan. 9 business article “Legislators take aim at green subsidies”: With reference to ending state subsidies for renewable energy, Rep. Mike Hager recently stated, “There’s gotta be some end to it. There’s gotta be a point where we say, ‘You’re a business and you gotta operate on your own.’

North Carolina has subsidies for several different entities, so I’m not sure what his issue is with the green energy subsidy. So as an alternative, why not cut off the “subsidies” for Hager and all politicians? In other words, they can no longer take any political contributions from anyone for anything. Politicians will have to stand on their own. No money from anyone for anything in our political system. That’s what we really need!
