CHAPEL HILL — And welcome to game day, folks. North Carolina and Duke tonight at the Smith Center will play for the 237th time. (Weather concerns not withstanding.)
Some stories you should read about the latest installment of this, the best college basketball rivalry in the country:
--From me, a story about UNC seeking a victory that might represent the high point of the season to this point. Sure, wins against Louisville, Michigan State and Kentucky were great and Roy Williams probably appreciated them more given all the Tar Heels have endured this season. But a victory against Duke? It could be the high of highs for UNC in this strange, roller coaster of a season.
--From colleague Laura Keeley, who covers Duke for us, a story about the Blue Devils, who have seemingly hit their stride at just the right time. As Laura writes, though, theres not much contentment in Durham. Mike Krzyzewski and his players believe Duke is good right now, but not great. They still believe they havent reached their potential.
--The story above also contains a who-has-the-edge look at the matchups. And there are some good ones tonight: Jabari Parker vs. James Michael McAdoo. Rasheed Sulaimon vs. Marcus Paige. K vs. Roy.
Speaking of the weather, it doesnt sound like it will affect the game. Steve Kirschner, a UNC athletic department spokesman, said the ACC isnt worried about the officials ability to make it here tonight. And Duke is confident in its ability to arrive at the Smith Center, as well. Thats really all you need to play: the two teams, officials and a game operations staff, which will be in place.
