Joyce Rothchild: Moral interpretation

February 17, 2014

The writer of the Feb. 9 letter “Imposing morality” said that the Founding Fathers never said government was the font of morality and that morality imposed by force on others was neither virtuous or moral. Why then are there so many in government (federal and state) so morally bent on regulating a woman’s health and family planning choices and the rights of same-sex couples to marry and adopt children?

The Moral Monday protesters are the voices of people who want to be considered equal residents entitled to the same benefits as those elected (hired) to represent them, including the pursuit of happiness according to their own standard of morality, not Jones Street’s interpretation.
