Clubhouse Ride returns in Joe Hernandez

Arcadia, CA ( - Clubhouse Ride, winner of last year's Californian, makes his return to the races Sunday at Santa Anita in the $75,000 Joe Hernandez Stakes on the track's downhill turf course at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Trained by Craig Lewis, Clubhouse Ride will start his 2014 debut effort from the outside post in the seven-horse field with Tyler Baze getting the mount. This will be the 6-year-old's first race since finishing fourth in the Ralph M. Hinds Handicap Sept. 22 at Fairplex.

Owned by Six-S Racing Stable and Niko Petralia, Clubhouse Ride competed against the top runners in California last year, posting second-place finishes to Game On Dude in the San Antonio Stakes, Santa Anita Handicap and Charles Town Classic. The chestnut horse was fourth to Game On Dude in the Hollywood Gold Cup as well.

Sixteen months ago, Clubhouse Ride won the $53,000 Hesperia Purse at Santa Anita at Sunday's distance down the hillside turf course.

Clubhouse Ride is less than $3,000 away from reaching $1 million in career earnings. He comes into Sunday's race with four wins, eight seconds and eight thirds in 32 lifetime starts for $997,994.
