Sandy Durso: Get weather-ready

February 21, 2014

My dad used to say that every garbage truck should be equipped with a snow plow. The drivers already know every street and can run their routes quickly and efficiently to clear the ice and snow off as soon as possible. Wouldn’t this be worth it? Let’s invest in our safety.

As the sun melts the snow and puddles form, clearing this slush before it turns into black ice is crucial. I cleared the steps and driveway at my home and have no problems. Consider the cost of closed businesses, closed schools and accidents.

I have lived in Raleigh 20 years, and we seem to have some type of extreme weather every year. Let’s be proactive instead of just waiting for the sun to melt the ice away or the temperatures to rise.
