Duke dorm fire blamed on electrical problem

— Fire investigators have determined that an electrical problem caused a fire that consumed a dormitory room on Duke University's East Campus last week.

Deputy Chief Chris Iannuzzi said Friday that investigators were able to pin the Thursday evening fire at Brown Residence Hall on an electrical problem after going over the scene the next day.

About 40 Duke students who live on the third floor of Brown were move to other quarters temporarily.

Damage was confined to the one room, Duke officials said.
