Wake County school board holding student assignment work session Friday

Student assignment is going back on the front burner for the Wake County school board on Friday.

Decisions such as making only a few changes for this school year and no moves for the 2014-15 school year have allowed the board to not have to spend much time over the past year on assignment. That’s changing now that staff is working on a new three-year plan that would begin in the 2015-16 school year.

Administrators had originally planned to update the board later in the year but board members said they wanted to be more involved in the beginning.

To help with the process, the board will hold a work session from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday that’s been dubbed “First In A Student Assignment Seminar Series.” They’ll meet in the board conference room.

The next several months will help show what value board members place for the at times competing values of proximity, stability and achievement.
