Empty car found crashed and burning in Raleigh, suspected driver found at home

From staff reportsFebruary 26, 2014

— A man walked unhurt from a crash and fire Wednesday morning that destroyed the car he left on northbound Capital Boulevard, police said.

The crash was reported about 2:30 a.m. near the Fenton Street intersection, according to police.

Police found the car’s owner, whose name has not been released, later at his home on Stevens Road and determined that he was impaired then, they said.

Investigators think he was the driver when the car crashed, but that had not been established, officers said.

Police also found that there was an outstanding arrest warrant for another man at the home on Stevens Road, James Alphonse Nicholson Jr., and they arrested him.

Police did not disclose the reason for the arrest warrant, but said no charges have been filed in connection with the car fire.
