Carolina Panthers sign cornerback to active roster

jjones@charlotteobserver.comFebruary 27, 2014

The Carolina Panthers made their first significant roster move since their playoff loss to San Francisco by signing cornerback Anderson Russell to the active roster.

Russell, who signed with Washington as an undrafted rookie from Ohio State in 2010, played in three games for the Panthers late in the 2012 season – mostly on special teams, with one snap at cornerback. He went to training camp with Carolina before injuring his right ankle, and he was waived/injured in September.

Two cornerbacks – Captain Munnerlyn and Drayton Florence – are among the 20 Panthers set to become unrestricted free agents on March 11. Cornerback James Dockery is a restricted free agent.
