John Drescher’s Feb. 22 column “The goal: No labels for people” left me wondering how far you intend to take this. Will you stop referring to people as “doctors” and start calling them “people who finished medical school”? Will you stop calling people “teachers” and start referring to them as “people who obtained education degrees”? Will you stop calling Barack Obama “president” and refer to him as the “man who won the last election”?
You can call people who are in this country illegally “illegal immigrants,” “undocumented aliens” or anything else that appeals to you, but it does not change the fact that they (or their parents) have broken the law, and they are morally obligated to return to their proper country of residence.
