Robert Musgrove: Clean it up now

March 1, 2014

I am concerned, no, more like outraged at the apparent lack of action taken over the Duke Energy/Dan River coal ash spill. For over 30 years I have been enjoying Kerr Lake as a recreation area, and now it appears to be threatened by a negligent dumping of pollution. What is DENR doing about the spill to mitigate the loss of river life and habitat? What is Duke Energy doing to mitigate the loss?

The long-term effects downstream are unimaginable at this point. It seems that DENR and other agencies are just “taking samples” and “monitoring” the situation. Immediate action should be taken to remedy the problem before it’s too late. What if someone defecated in your living room? Would you just “study” the problem or would you take immediate action to clean it up? Please do something now.
