TMSA’s Science Olympiad team brings home medals

Triangle Math and Science Academy’s teams came out near the top in the Raleigh Regional Science Olympiad competition last month.

The varsity team came in fourth place in the tournament and the junior varsity team came in third, with several students earning individual medals. Thirty-four teams competed in the regional, which tested students’ skills in 23 events, including written tests in anatomy, entomology and “Disease Detectives” categories and building events including bottle rockets, wheeled vehicle and homemade xylophone.

In all, the TMSA students, most of whom are in fourth through seventh grades, won 48 medals, including 10 gold medals, four silver and 14 bronze.

Members of the varsity team are Ashvini Dandapani, Nikita Filenko, Rishika Gaddam, Ethan Godwin, Aayush Patel, Shalini Subramanian, Ananya Sundar, Harshavardhan Bojjireddy, Shruti Marota, Marzuq Islam, Forrest Liu, Safal Wagle, Darshan Raj, Aiden Tamton, Saumya Vithalkar, Benjamin Wu and Melody Ocampo-Rhoades.

The junior varsity team members are Rishi Gupta, Ritvik Nalamothu, Rohan Palande, Ruhie Rapolu, Haroon Gilani, Sarrat Mandapati, Vibhu Pavuluri, Tejas Raj, Ksenia Matveeva, Nikhilesh Alahari, Sheridan Charles, Vinisha Velmineti, Kailash Muthu, Afzaa Rahman, Esha Agarwal and Sneha Raghavan.
