NC State's Renada Davis named ACC softball Player of the Week

— N.C. State’s Renada Davis was named the ACC Player of the Week in softball, the conference announced Monday.

The junior shortstop had six hits, including three home runs, and seven RBIs in 13 plate appearances to help the Wolfpack to a 4-0 record last week, including a series sweep against Virginia. Defensively, Davis had 11 assists in the field and recorded three putouts.

Florida State’s Lacey Waldrop won the ACC Pitcher of the Week award.

Campbell: Sophomore Courtney Roberts was named co-pitcher of the week in the Big South along with Kiana Quolas of Coastal Carolina. Roberts pitched 92/3 innings in two appearances, including a seven-inning no-hitter against Villanova.

Saint Augustine’s: The Falcons’ doubleheader against Saint Andrews at Buffalo Road Park was rescheduled from Tuesday to Wednesday at noon because of inclement weather.

Baseball

East Carolina: Junior Jeff Hoffman was named Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week and one of five national players of the week by Collegiate Baseball. The right-hander struck out a career-best 14 batters against Western Kentucky on Friday.

Duke: Because of inclement weather, Tuesday’s baseball game at Liberty was rescheduled to Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Durham at Jack Coombs Field. The teams’ second on April 1 will be played in Lynchburg, Va..

Basketball

East Carolina: Forward Caleb White was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week by a media panel representing the 16 member schools, the league announced.

• The Pirates’ student section was named the best in C-USA in the Naismith Student Sections of the Year Award competition. The recognition, determined in part through two rounds of public voting, comes with a prize of $250 toward the school’s general college fund.

Soccer

East Carolina: Brian Periman was named assistant coach, according to an announcement from coach Rob Donnenwirth. Periman was an assistant at High Point last season.

Men’s Tennis

Campbell 5, Belmont 1: The Camels (5-4) won four singles matches and the doubles point to win their second straight dual match in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Area clubs

Raleigh Sports Club: N.C. State basketball coach Mark Gottfried will be the guest speaker at the club’s 50th anniversary celebration at noon Wednesday at Highland United Methodist Church.

Durham Sports Club: Duke football coach David Cutcliffe will be the guest speaker at Wednesday’s noon meeting at Croasdaile Country Club.
