Cubs add Lilly to front office staff

Mesa, AZ ( - The Chicago Cubs today named former major league pitcher Ted Lilly as special assistant to president of baseball operations Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer.

Lilly spent four years with the Cubs from 2007-10, helping the club to back- to-back National League Central Division titles in 2007 and 2008.

In his new role with the organization, Lilly will spend time with the club during spring training, visit the club's minor league affiliates during the season, evaluate amateur players leading up to the draft and perform professional scouting assignments.

The southpaw recently announced his retirement as a player after 15 seasons in the majors. He completed his big league career with a 130-113 record and a 4.14 ERA in 356 appearances for the Expos, Yankees, Athletics, Blue Jays, Cubs and Dodgers.
