The U.S. Flag Code states, in part, that, “The flag should not be used as ‘wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery.’ ”
While there is no penalty for failing to comply with the code, any citizens who claim to love their flag and consider themselves patriotic should also show respect to the flag and what it represents by complying with the code.
The writer of the March 4 letter “Wearers, beware” is missing two points: The wearers are in conflict with the U.S. Flag Code, and the school was trying to defuse a potentially dangerous situation.
