11-year-old abducted Maryland girl is found

— A Maryland girl who was abducted and thought to be in North Carolina has been found in a South Carolina motel.

Baltimore County police issued an alert Thursday for Caitlyn Marie Virts, 11, and said she was believed to be in Garysburg, Northampton County. Authorities said she had been kidnapped from her home by her father, Timothy Howard Virts, 38.

Both were found late Friday in a motel in Florence, S.C., according to the Baltimore County Police Department. Caitlyn appears to be unharmed, and Virts is in custody, police said.

Caitlyn was taken from her home in Dundalk, Md., where her mother was found dead Thursday morning. Police said Virts is wanted in the killing.

Police said they found the girl and her father as a result of an expanded Amber Alert.
