BOB MAHONEY — Bob Mahoney/LIFETIME

The Trip to Bountiful (8pm, Lifetime) - Lifetime remakes Horton Foote’s classic “The Trip to Bountiful” with Cicely Tyson, Vanessa Williams, Blair Underwood and Keke Palmer. It’s the story of an elderly woman who lives with her overprotective son and yearns for a little freedom. When he refuses to take her to visit her hometown of Bountiful, she escapes to the bus station to make the trip on her own. The story was originally written by Foote for TV (and was also on Broadway), and Geraldine Page won an Oscar for her role in the 1985 film version.

Also on tonight . . .

A Ring by Spring (7pm, Hallmark) - A woman visits a fortuneteller and is told she will never get marred if she doesn’t receive a proposal by spring. As the soothsayer’s other predictions come true, the woman starts to believe the prophecy.

Too Cute! (8pm, Animal Planet) - Still a sucker for this show. Tonight, tabby kittens befriend a bearded dragon; Burmese kittens explore their new home; and Siberian kittens vie for their mother’s attention.

Saturday Night Live (11:30, NBC) - Lena Dunham (“Girls”) hosts with musical guest National.
