Daniel Colby: The ‘dissent’ card

Regarding the March 4 column “The terms of surrender on same-sex marriage”: While it was clever of Ross Douthat to reframe discrimination as “dissent,” his article collapses under its own contradictions. Private individuals should always be free to dissent from popular opinion. Public businesses cannot be allowed to discriminate against gay residents.
