Rabbi Marc Gellman in the Feb. 27 Life, etc. column “Creationism or evolution? Neither is completely true” writes that evolution cannot explain human consciousness and compassion, but he gives no indication that he has researched the subjects. He would find that evolutionists do have theories on how such qualities as altruism and the mothering instinct developed. Evolution does not just explain the ugly aspects of nature, as Gellman suggests. Also, even if a question cannot yet be answered, we do not need to rush off to a supernatural explanation.
