Clayton reports sewage spill

From staff reportsMarch 16, 2014

— Town officials announced roughly 1,500 gallons of waste water spilled on N.C. 42, some of it running into an unnamed tributary of Cabin Branch.

The spill happened Friday while a contractor was installing a storm drain pipe and damaged a 6-inch sewer main, officials said. Waste water leaked over the intersection of Short Johnson Road. Some of it was recovered, while some leaked into the water.

The town notified the state Division of Water Quality. State law requires notice of spills larger than 1,000 gallons.
