Best win: 72-66 vs. Duke

Scouting the Wildcats: Arizona, a No. 1 seed even after losing Pac-12 final to UCLA, has to be considered one of the tournament’s favorites. Forward Aaron Gordon (12.3 points per game, 7.8 rebounds per game) is one of the country’s top freshmen.

2. Wisconsin

Record: 26-7. Last 10: 7-3.

Bid: At-large. RPI: 7.

Best win: 75-62 at Michigan State

Scouting the Badgers: Until losing the regular-season finale against Nebraska, Wisconsin had been playing as well as anybody. Frank Kaminsky, a 7-footer, averages 13.4 points and 6.4 rebounds.

3. Creighton

Record: 26-7. Last 10: 7-3.

Bid: At-large. RPI: 11.

Best win: Swept season series vs. Villanova.

Scouting the Bluejays: Making third straight NCAA appearance behind conference player of the year, national scoring leader Doug McDermott (26.5 ppg, 7.2 rpg).

4. San Diego State

Record: 29-4. Last 10: 8-2

Bid: At-large. RPI: 17.

Best win: 61-57 at then-No. 16 Kansas

Scouting the Aztecs: Conference player of the year Xavier Thames (17.8 ppg, 3.2 apg, 1.7 steals per game) led team to ninth straight 20-win season, fifth straight NCAA berth.

5. Oklahoma

Record: 23-9. Last 10: 6-4

Bid: At-large. RPI: 20

Best win: 87-82 vs. then-No. 9 Iowa State

Scouting the Sooners: Sophomore Buddy Hield (16.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg) and league rebounding leader Ryan Spangler (9.4) lead team to second straight NCAA appearance.

6. Baylor

Record: 24-11. Last 10: 8-2.

Bid: At-large. RPI: 30.

Best win: 74-61 vs. then-No. 16 Iowa State

Scouting the Bears: Cory Jefferson (13.6 ppg, 8.3 rpg) and Kenny Chery (11.5 ppg, 5.0 apg) led team to sixth 20-win season in seven years.

7. Oregon

Record: 23-9. Last 10: 8-2.

Bid: At-large. RPI: 29.

Best win: 64-57 vs. Arizona.

Scouting the Ducks: Oregon probably played its way into the tournament with a victory against Arizona in its final regular-season game. Junior guard Joseph Young averages 18.6 points.

8. Gonzaga

Record: 28-6. Last 10: 7-3

Bid: Automatic. RPI: 26

Best win: Beat Brigham Young twice

Scouting the Bulldogs: Sam Dower Jr. (15.0 ppg, 7.1 rpg) leads team to 16th consecutive NCAA tournament berth.

9. Oklahoma State

Record: 21-12. Last 10: 6-4

Bid: At-large. R PI: 40

Best win: 72-65 vs. then-No. 5 Kansas

Scouting the Cowboys: Preseason All-American Marcus Smart (17.8 ppg, 5.7 rpg) and Markel Brown (17.1 ppg, 5.3 rpg) led team to second straight NCAA berth.

10. Brigham Young

Record: 23-11. Last 10: 8-2.

Bid: At-large. RPI: 33.

Best win: 73-65 vs. Gonzaga.

Scouting the Cougars: Junior guard Tyler Haws is one of the country’s top scorers (23.4 ppg). Guard Kyle Collinsworth not only leads BYU in assists (4.6) but in rebounding (8.1), too.

11. Nebraska

Record: 19-12. Last 10: 8-2.

Bid: At-large. RPI: 45.

Best win: 60-51 at Michigan State

Scouting the Cornhuskers: Nebraska is in the tournament for the first time since 1998 – and is 0-6 all-time. Wing Terran Pettaway averages 18.0 points and 1.7 assists.

12. North Dakota State

Record: 25-6. Last 10: 9-1

Bid: Automatic. RPI: 37

Best win: 85-66 vs. Delaware

Scouting the Bison: Making second NCAA appearance behind conference player of the year Taylor Braun (18.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 3.9 apg).

13. New Mexico State

Record: 26-9. Last 10: 9-1.

Bid: Automatic. RPI: 78

Best win: 67-61 at New Mexico

Scouting the Aggies: Conference player of the year Daniel Mullings (16.6 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 3.5 apg) led team to third straight NCAA berth, fifth in six years.

14. Louisiana-Lafayette

Record: 23-11. Last 10: 8-2.

Bid: Automatic. RPI: 100.

Best win: 82-81 (OT) vs. Georgia State

Scouting the Ragin’ Cajuns: One of the nation’s top scoring teams (81.4 points per game), Louisiana-Lafayette gets 19.1 points per game from guard Elfrid Payton and 18.9 from forward Shawn Long.

15. American

Record: 20-12. Last 10: 6-4

Bid: Automatic. RPI: 124

Best win: Beat Boston University twice

Scouting the Eagles: Back in NCAAs for first time since 2009 behind play of Jesse Reed (14.1 ppg) and Tony Wrobilicky (12.1 ppg, 7.3 rpg).

16. Weber State

Record: 19-11. Last 10: 6-4

Bid: Automatic. RPI: 149

Best win: 68-63 vs. Montana

Scouting the Wildcats: Conference player of the year Davion Berry (19.2 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.9 apg) led team to first regular-season title since 2010.
