UNC President Tom Ross is meeting Monday with the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics to discuss reforms in college sports.

The Knight Commission gathered in Miami, where it’s holding talks on proposed changes to the NCAA’s governance structure and other possible reforms. Among the topics on the table are new benefits for college athletes.

Ross was invited to join the commission’s public discussions, as well as meet with commission members in their private executive session. The commission may hear from Ross about his experience dealing with the recent academic and athletic scandals at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Other participants at the meeting are former National Football League Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and Wake Forest University President Nathan Hatch, who is chairman of the NCAA board.

According to a Knight Commission tweet, Hatch told the gathering the NCAA’s biggest concern is that universities don’t have more faith and trust in NCAA processes. Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said there should be more transparency in admissions of athletes, according to the Knight twitter feed. He also said the idea of a one-year term of academic readiness for athletes should be considered.
