John Sutherland: McCain wrong about Obama

March 19, 2014

John McCain’s March 18 column “How Obama made U.S. look weak” on how to deal with Russia’s aggression begins by criticizing the Obama administration on its lack of a realistic world view that has allowed Vladimir Putin to take over Crimea. But the Obama team does reflect a world view – one that says loud and clear that we must try to solve our disagreements through negotiations if at all possible. Going to war is no longer acceptable.

It is also doing many of the items that McCain outlines – rallying our allies and presenting a united front – and taking actions not mentioned by McCain such as economic and political sanctions that will impose a significant cost on Russia.
