Raleigh police seek driver in hit-and-run that killed woman, 64

From staff reportsMarch 20, 2014

— A 64-year-old woman who was on foot on Capital Boulevard was hit by at least two vehicles and killed Thursday morning, and only one driver stopped, police said.

Police were trying to find at least one vehicle that they believed hit Cornelia Olero Amissah and took off, said police spokesman Jim Sughrue. He described the car as a small, light-colored sedan.

Investigators were unsure if other cars were involved, too.

The accident happened in the northbound lanes of Capital, just north of Trawick Road, a little before 7 a.m., police said. Their investigation kept northbound lanes shut down until shortly before 10 a.m.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken with an investigating officer to call the Raleigh Police Department's tip line at 919-834-4357.
