Knightdale charges Raleigh man had gun at high school

From staff reportsMarch 20, 2014

— A Raleigh man was arrested at Knightdale High School, charged with having a loaded 9 mm Glock handgun on school property Wednesday as well as marijuana possession.

An arrest warrant accused Keith Clark, 21, of 2904 Red Clay Drive with having a gun on educational property, possessing 10 grams of marijuana with intent to sell or distribute it and maintaining a 2002 Saturn as a place to keep and sell drugs.

All three charges are felonies.

Knightdale police arrested Clark at 3 p.m. at the school on Bryan Chalk Lane, record said.

According to Knightdale Police Captain Tony Lashley, Clark regularly assisted in the school’s athletic department and was assisting with a practice.

Clark did not have the firearm on his body and instead, left it in his car. When parents came to pick up students from practice, they saw it in the vehicle and let School Resource Officer Pete Smith know.

Lashley said there is no indication the firearm was not registered and Clark has no previous firearm charges.

Clark was released on $15,000 bail and ordered to appear in court Thursday.

A magistrate also made not returning to the school a condition of his release.
