Braves' Beachy to undergo surgery Friday

Lake Buena Vista, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery on Friday.

It will be the second such procedure for Beachy, who first had the elbow ligament replacement surgery in June 2012.

Beachy returned to the mound last July after recovering from the first operation and was 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA in five starts. He developed elbow pain in late August and underwent a procedure in September to have particles removed.

The 27-year-old right-hander made three starts this spring training before the elbow pain again developed.

Beachy will be the second Atlanta hurler to undergo Tommy John surgery this spring. Kris Medlen had the procedure, also for a second time, on Tuesday.
