4-year-old girl dead after reported Raleigh drowning

— A 4-year-old girl was pronounced dead at Rex Hospital following a reported drowning in northwestern Raleigh, according to police.

Officers went to a residence on the 6100 block of St. Giles Street at about 4 p.m., where a caller had reported a drowning, according to Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue.

Police have not released the child’s name, pending notification of family members. Sughrue said a follow-up investigation is underway.
