Eleanor Kinnaird: No straight party voting

March 26, 2014

The March 25 letter to the editor “ Vote them out” recommended a remedy for dissatisfaction with the Republican legislature’s agenda: just vote them out of office by voting a straight Democratic ticket next election. What the writer doesn’t know is that the legislature repealed straight party voting. Now each office has to be marked individually. To make it even more difficult, there are 12 seats in the Senate and 43 in the House where no Democrat filed in those districts.

Eleanor Kinnaird, Chapel Hill

The writer is a former N.C. state senator.
