Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Melky Cabrera's two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning accounted for the only scoring in the Toronto Blue Jays' 2-0 victory over the New York Mets at Montreal's Olympic Stadium.
Cabrera belted the first pitch he saw from Adam Kolarek over the wall in left with Moises Sierra aboard and the game still scoreless with two outs in Toronto's half of the eighth. Both Cabrera and Sierra finished with two hits, as did Adam Lind.
Four Blue Jay hurlers combined to hold the Mets to two hits, with Brandon Morrow recording eight strikeouts over the first 5 2/3 innings and Aaron Sanchez fanning three of the six hitters he faced over the final two frames.
Mets starter Daisuke Matsuzaka also struck out eight while yielding five hits over five scoreless innings.
The game was the final one for both teams before each begins its regular season on Monday. The Mets will host Washington and the Blue Jays visit Tampa Bay.
