Enjoy these freebies while I’m away on vacation

I’m away on vacation this week, but I’m leaving behind a nice long list of freebies for you to score.

There’s a little something for everyone -- free coffee, frozen treats, outdoor work-outs and more.

Take a look:

*Treat yourself to an iced coffee today, Monday, March 31 – it’s on the house at Dunkin’ Donuts. Customers at participating Dunkin’ Donuts locations will receive a free 16-ounce cup of double-brewed iced coffee. Drink it straight, or add one of eight flavors: French vanilla, hazelnut, toasted almond, blueberry, coconut, cinnamon, caramel and raspberry.

*Not to be outdone, McDonald’s will offer a free cup of java each morning – or stop in later and enjoy a free iced coffee – starting today and continuing through April 13, at participating Triangle and Sandhills-area McDonald’s. No purchase is necessary.

*For a $1 investment, Wendy’s fans can treat themselves to a free Jr. Frosty through August. Purchase a Frosty key tag for $1 and you’ll be entitled to free frozen treats every time you make a purchase at a Wendy’s. The tags are on sale at participating Wendy’s through mid-April or while supplies last. Proceeds from the key tags go to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, an organization that helps find homes for foster children.

*Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in April, O2 Fitness is hosting free outdoor fitness classes. Show up at 6 p.m. on the turf at City Plaza in the 400 block of Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh. Throughout the month, you’ll be able to try a range of exercise workouts, from boot camp-style classes to yoga and Zumba. Come to one class or try all 14.

*Donate a children’s book to kids in need and the PDQ restaurant chain will reward your good deed with a free meal. The chain, which has locations in Raleigh, Cary, Durham and Wake Forest, will accept books Wednesday through April 6 for the benefit of local Boys & Girls Clubs. In return, you’ll receive a coupon for a free combo meal on your next visit.

*Grab a free ice cream cone on April 8 at Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shops – an annual rite of spring. The chain has given away scoops since 1979. No purchase required, but expect long lines. Ben & Jerry’s has two shops in Raleigh, one in Durham and one in Chapel Hill.

(I’ll be back and the blog will resume regularlry scheduled posts on Monday, April 7.)
